placenta secretes estriol mainly
ovaarian follicles produce 17 beta estradiol

hormone of normal woman = estradiol (di = 2 = mom and dad)
hormone of pregnancy = estriol (tri = 3 = mom and dad and baby)
hormone of postmenopause = estrone (one = 1 = just mom)
