Viral particles isolated from nasal exudate of a 10 y.o. male are shown to lose their infectivity once exposed to ether. It can be concluded that the viral particles are most likely:

a.-Heat-stable
b.-Defective
c.-Enveloped
d.-Icosahedral
e.-Recombinant

Could you give me some examples of the virus?

Examples: from DNA viruses:
Pox virus, Hep B virus, Herpes Virus, CMV Virus, VZV

RNA Viruses: All helical RNAs are Enveloped. eg. Rhabdoviruses (Rabies), Paramyxoviruses (Parainfluenza, Measles, Mumps), Orthomyxoviruses (influenza)

Envelope is derived from the host cell membrane when the virus buds out. So its lipid bilayer and dissolves in organic solvents like ether, thus the virus loses its infectivity.
