Thers a Q in Kaplan micro asking : what are the two fungi that cause problems in IV lines?? I know one is C.albicans...any idea about the second one ???

heyy wait...I remember now ! in prem babies when we feed them with lipids ...and this is a lipophilic yeast on our flora ... gosh ! Im soo demoralised when I cant remember what I read and make connections ![]()

M. furfur sometimes needs a lipid like olive oil added to the media to allow it to grow. We had one out of a blood culture a couple of years ago. We could see it on the smear but it wouldn't grow until we overlaid the plate with olive oil. I don't know the patient history unfortunately.
