The MOST COMMON cause of blood-stained stool in an otherwise normal infant is
(A) anal fissure.
(B) anal fistula.
(C) haemorrhoids.
(D) Meckel diverticulitis.
(E) intussusception

I would go for an infectious cause... but since its not part of the answers I think its, anal fissure..

A indeed! i read up on it.....anal fissures IS the most common cause of LGIB in infants. Although normal otherwise, they hv a h/o constipation or hard stools and/or crying while defecating.

Meckel's on the other hand is the most common congenital anomaly of the GIT, and LGIB is the most common presentation in these children (aged 1-4yrs). However, not too sure of the stats, even if some are ASxtic with spontaneous resolution there are those who bleed heavily enuff to cause anemia...or other problems.
i guess this info ws mainly for my benefit:o)
