I have seen this problem myself as well as with others that retention is problem.
I am starting this post to help the ways which are useful for long term memory. First a few things for all the starters or new ones that during the first and second readings I think retention is little So don't panic if u forget a lot of stuff . In these readings usually we familiraze our selves with the contents and books. So don't get frustrated or disappointed in it. You will definalety see difference in the 3rd one.
REVISION AND REPITITION is the key.
Charts for classifications[ pharma], tracts [ neuroanatomy] , Metabolisim and sticking them to walls near study area will really help and then revising them everyday.
Flash cards[ though not very helpful for me].
All are welcome to add up what ever helped them for retaining the subjects a little longer.Do correct me if i am wrong at any point.
And one thing very important which i have concluded from different exam experinces Go to exam with the strong and good hold on all subjects to get Good scores.
