hi there,
Could somebody explain me about what happens in primary polidipsia...
AS serum ADH decreases in this state then why ECF and ICF volume increases instead it should decrease and what's the reason behind decrease in ECF and ICF osmolarity..and lastly why it is hyposmolar state...
why diabetes insipidus is hyperosmolar state because of increased ECF osmolarity or some other reason.....plz explain ...

please remember to differentiate cause and effect. (this concept is always useful when dealing with primary and secondary hormonal disorders, btw)
polydypsia denotes excessive water inter intake. in primary polydypsia the patient's intake of water exceeds the kidney's ability to excrete free water. thus serum osmolality decreases.

becoz osmolality is low ADH is low. DO NOT confuse it with SIADH. in this case it is the inappropriate release of ADH CAUSING the decrease in osmolality.

in SIADH the urine osmolality is high. In primary polydypsia urine osmolality is low.
