hi, i don't understand one thing......E.coli n te nosocomial setting can case pneumonia ..... maybe alonmg with P.aeruginosa and S.aureus! exactly which route do these guyz(E.coli) take to reach the lung and under wht condition?

I'm sorry, but I haven't a clue. I do know that patients in ICU's become colonized with gram negatives in their respiratory tracts very quickly. Whether they actually cause pneumonia depends on history, xrays, and lots of input that I don't have access to as a MT. Perhaps you will run into an infectious disease doc along the way - ask him/her this question. Sorry I can't help. I read out cultures, but that's pretty much it.
