Why drinking caffeine and ethyl alcohol both tend to dilute urine and increase urinary volume ?

  #2

maybe anatgonizing ADH activity?????

  #3

Alcohol inhibits release of ADH from post.pituitary causing enhanced diuresis, this effect is also supplemente by alcohol induced release of ANP.....however tolerance develops and this increase urine output subsides after a certain period of time.

Upon withdrawal there is increased release of vasopressin from post.pituiitary and consequent retention of water....may cause diluitional hyponatremia .

coffain acts by dilating afferent arterioles and binding to ADH.
