i think breast cancer has increased because the people smoke (smoking is one of risk factors). mammography helps to detect tumors but can't change the incidence of bc.

My reasoning is this -more energy and $$ goes into breast Ca and more women tend to have mammograms and with all the negative press and dramatic increase in the price of cigarettes( hear in New York any way) its hard to think of an increase in the amount of women who smoke. Comments?

Incidence is defined as the # of NEW cases of ds over a period of time diveded by the population at risk of developing the ds. I am claiming that the population at risk of developing breast ca has increase the incidence of breast ca because today in a lot of cases there is No charge for a mammogram.

mammography, especially Image-Checker CAD System, detect breast cancer at its earliest stage. this is critical for the successful management and treatment of patients. but the question was...... so, mammography can help to decrease MORTALITY from bc but can't increase breast cancer. i got idea but i disagree with construction of the question. tnx!

Years before the independence , some Doctors from Europe taught that African people didn't have cardiovascular problems such as Hypertension as much as the others, until they started screening for those diseases in the population. My point is that, even though smoking is a risk factor for breast cancer, the increase screening with mammography, may have shown more cases that wouldn't be revealed without it , thus increasing the incidence.
