The Japanese transport and overhead crane market expands to X dollars in 2021, an increase of X% over the previous year. Overall, consumption has grown significantly. During the period under review, the market hit an all-time high in 2021 and is expected to keep growing for the next few years.

In value terms, production of transport and overhead cranes is estimated to shrink slightly to $X in 2021 at export prices. Overall, however, production continued to show a slight decline. The most significant growth rate occurred in 2015, when production increased by X% year-on-year. During the period under review, production hit an all-time high of $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Export Scale of Overhead Cranes and Gantry Cranes in Japan
In 2021, approximately X transport cranes, gantry cranes and overhead cranes were exported from Japan; -X% decrease compared to 2020. Overall, exports fell sharply. The growth rate was most pronounced in 2019, with exports increasing by X% year-on-year. During the period under review, exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, transport and overhead crane exports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to show deep contractions. The most significant growth rate occurred in 2019, when exports increased by X% over the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, exports failed to regain momentum.

Portugal (X units), Sweden (X units) and Kenya (X units) were the main destinations for Japanese transport and overhead crane exports, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, Sweden saw the largest increase in shipments (X%), while the other leading players saw more modest growth in shipments.

By value, the largest markets for transport and overhead cranes exported from Japan are Portugal ($X), Kenya ($X), and Sweden ($X), which together account for X% of total exports. Sweden, with a compound annual growth rate of X%, experienced the highest growth in export value among the major destination countries during the period under review, while the other leading countries experienced more moderate growth in shipments.

Import scale of bridge cranes and gantry cranes in Japan
Overseas purchases of haulage cranes, gantry cranes and overhead cranes finally picked up in 2021, reaching X units for the first time since 2018, ending a two-year downward trend. Overall, however, imports have contracted sharply. The fastest growth rate in 2018, an increase of X% year-on-year. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, imports remain low from 2017 to 2021.

Imports of transport and overhead cranes fell sharply to $X in 2021 by value. But overall, there has been a sudden drop in imports. The rate of growth was most pronounced in 2015, when imports increased by X% year-on-year. During the period under review, 3 ton gantry crane imports reached a maximum value of X dollars in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports decreased slightly.

China (X units), South Korea (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) are the major suppliers of transport and overhead cranes imported to Japan, accounting for X% of total imports. From 2012 to 2021, China recorded the most significant sourcing growth (+X%) among major suppliers, while imports from other leaders showed a mixed trend.

South Korea ($X) is Japan’s largest supplier of transport and overhead cranes by value, accounting for X% of total imports. In second place is China ($X) with X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual value growth rate from South Korea was relatively modest. The average annual growth rates of imports for the remaining suppliers are as follows: China (+X% per annum) and the Netherlands (-X% per annum).

Statistics of various crane suppliers in Japan
South Korea is Japan’s largest supplier of transport and overhead cranes by value, accounting for 57% of total imports. In second place is China, which accounts for 26% of total imports.

By value, the largest markets for transport and overhead cranes exported from Japan were Portugal, Kenya and Sweden, which together accounted for 77% of total exports.

The average export price for transport and overhead cranes in 2021 is $2,471 per unit, unchanged from the previous year.

The average import price for transport and overhead cranes in 2021 is $3,403 per unit, down -36% from the previous year.
