I am a PGY-1 resident, got matched this year. I plan to apply for PGY-1 position in another specialty starting from 2014 ( change specialty next year) and plan to start it after I complete my one year contract with existing program.
In this case, do I need to notify my current program/ does my current program get notified when I apply via ERAS?

Thank you.

Are you kidding me? Is you program a catergorical program? If so you absolutly have to tell them, as the ERAS application will require you to list your current work status, and will most likely be asked for the reason you are leaving your specialty and your program director's letter of recommendation.

This is bad though if you planned on leaving this specialty all along.
