Hello guys,

I just noticed that a lot of review books, e.g. high yield series, brs series, etc. published latest version in 2003 or even 2004. I bought a lot of review books in 2002 and got the old versions, I am wondering if there is big difference. For example, I have high yield gross anatomy 1st eddition of 1997, which is 135-page; whereas the latest 2nd eddition is 190-page, available in amazon.com; is it just different format / organization or really more useful issues included?

BTW, i heard from somebody that there are still some slots in internal medicine or pediatrics left open for post-match this year, it seems that these two are easier for FMGs.

Good luck!

hefeweizen,

i used all older editions and didn't see a problem with it, esp. in subjects in which nothing's really changed like embryo, anatomy, etc. in fact, embryo 1st ed is even better bc it's much shorter and has everything you need in it. i even used path brs 1994 after comparing it to a friend's 2004--the subjects in brs you should read the updated versions of will be obvious. i had no regrets about not buying the latest ed., although i must say, since path is so important, if you must get an updated something, get path. and first aid--i hear it's important to get the latest.

you should go to a bookstore and compare and see for yourself, though. my personal opinion is that most review books should be used to gain an understanding, and the facts you should memorize are in first aid. first aid is hard to just read without some background, but it really has everything you need, with the exception of path--get goljan audio, and get brs path or goljan rapid review.

I think Nuprin said it right. If you glance thru the 2004, there are only a few small adjustments. One thing I found helpful in 2004 was the renal section of pathology, but after looking at old vs new editions it is just a matter of finance. If you have the extra cash, it couldn't hurt, but if you are strapped for every nickel, save the money, and check out what you need at a bookstore.
Peace
