ur sources r ok to pass, try t, find out if the problem was with memorizing things or underestanding the concepts, concentrate more on
the concepts more,
high yields like goljan 100 pages
review again what u have read
do some more question like NMS or Rapid review by goljan
concentrate more on genetic, molecular biology, immunology, and underestanding graph interpretations
good luck

i know you feel disheartened now, but give yourself a limited time to feel that way before you go into "war" mode. you will be able to pass this exam! hiwa gave some great advice--make sure you figure out what your weaknesses are. in addition, please go get the goljan audio. it is indispensable for passing this exam. you can get it from www.coolgoose.com. do a search for "papi" under artist's name. make sure you have a popup blocker installed in your browser.

thank u guys..i ll try to get goljan audio ...is there anywhere else u can buy them from instead of online?

  #7

go to ebay!
u will get it around $10-15!
Hope it helps!

Hi hiwa, i like your suggestion. kaplan notes do not have enough info on molecular biology. What do you think the best supplement is? thanks

Hi smv, i just wanted to let you know that you are not alone! i too failed step 1 on my first attempt. There were alot of people who have helped me out with study materials. One in particular who helped me out extremely in getting my passing score, may be able to do the same for you. You can contact her by email at hotmail... user ID is Sand6572. I hope this helps and i wish you good luck on the exam.

I personally read kaplan I cannt think any other source. the only way to improve in it is to do more questions as in genetic , neuro and and molecular biology question more like math which need more exercise rathe than just knowlege

Hi hiwa, thanks for your response. What question source do you suggest in genetic , neuro and and molecular biology. Is only Qbank enough? I don't think Goljan questions has any of there topic.

i had to find it again using google

it is always better to use sources which is soley for usmle, like NMS, BSS
( BSS as a learning tool rather than board simulator), Rapid review, http://usmle.myplayspace.com/

there r many good MCQ on this website aswell

SMV I also failed for step 1. I took it on june 14th, and I think my weakness was time, so now I have to train more in speed, read faster and look for the answer soon as I left about 10 qs in the second block of qs in my exam and for the others I couldn't look back for some doubts I had. So don't worry that much and keep going as I will.

Just to echo the other people, Kaplan is more than enough. But just like med school, every fact can be tested. So you can't just read it. You need to try and comprehend and understand. Now that you have taken the test, you know Anat is pitifully represented on the test. Pharmac is also poorly emphasized. I felt Kaplan pharmac was its weakest book. Not so much because the facts weren't there, but because it was not organized/written well. Of course I never liked pharmac in school either. But in the end, (and this is true for the whole test), if the answers are not in Kaplan, then you would have to go to a standard text to find it. It won't be in other review books. Anyway, take heart, remember this is just a test and does not really represent your abilities as a doctor (step I is almsot totally irrelevant to actual practice), and that it should be much easier to study now that you have gone through all this. My big mistake was not doing enough questions, and not doing them soon enough. Best of luck!

Yes, you can pass. Because I passed. Here's what I wrote everyone:

You are not alone. I failed too, and posted my comeback attempt here under my daily diary this summer. Please do a search under "Namf: Daily Diary".

I hope you don't find it offensive--I am not interested in profiting on your pain--but I am selling my Goljan materials at cost on 2 CDs. Just write me at bookcash@yahoo.com--don't send it to my inbox here please.

Whatever happens, know this: you can do it.
