A 15-year-old girl in a rural community has swollen, painful lymph nodes in her right axilla. Physical examination reveals multiple scratches on her right arm with a papule associated with one of the scratch marks. She states that the scratches occurred about 5 days ago. A. cute kitten has bartonella as normal flora. they cause cat scratch fever in immunocompetent persons, which is characterized by localized LAP and requires no treatment. in immunocompromised it cause vascular damage known as bacillary angiomatosis, which resembles Kaposi's but Warthin-Starry silver stain can show the bug. doxy and erythro are drug of choice.
