I just got my result and to my great relief...i am through with a higher performance in all the subsets!!
Gave the exam in April in Chicago... was so scared till I received the score this morning that I didn't even talk about it until this morning! I was feeling horrible after the exam and was just thinking how i would do it again if i had to!!
Wanted to thank everyone on this forum. Though i never posted much but read almost every new post and gathered pearls from most of them.
The very first thing is believe in yourself...believe that u have to do it in just one go...and then give it your best.I know it is easier said than done, specially for IMG's like me who are apprehensive about most things including accent...local mannerisms etc. I moved to US just 2 months before the exam and was getting tensed since I was unable to understand if someone started speaking fast...grammar and English wasn't a problem for me...understanding accent and slowing down my speed of talking was a struggle.
I studied for 4 weeks.. though I think it was an overkill...even 2-3 weeks should be good enough. The key is as everyone here says...PRACTICE...PRACTICE and PRACTICE. I started with first aid and did UW cases in last 10-15 days. I think fist aid is THE key. Read 2-3 cases to start with only to realize that I can remember things only if i practiced them rather than just reading. So i practiced cases with my husband ( who googled even for things like RUQ, CVA... !!) and many of his friends in the university including one american friend. Everyone was so helpful that it would have been impossible for me to do it without them! They helped me with their critical comments improving my CIS and SEP portion. I did not do it with any medico. Try doing it if u have someone around...just to know if u r going right on ICE portion.Did 2 cases per day on average...timed. discussed with the SP about the things i missed...and believe me friends this really helps!!PAM HUGS FOSS...SODAE...WADST... I made columns for SODAE on left left lower corner and marked them at the end as i did counselling...so it became a routine at the end.
I was far from being perfect...was tremendously nervous for the first case...didn't pull the leg rest which she requested later...didn't get time for adequately summarising in 2-3 cases...2-3 times the disposable cover of otoscope remained in patient's ear since I didn't fix it properly.. , ...had no clue to the diagnosis in couple cases and many other case specific mistakes which I cannot post for obvious reasons.
What I did right was... knocked every time, greeted warmly, asked how they were doing and also asked permission to start history and examination(separately),draped them at the beginning, washed my hands, tied and untied gown after taking permission, did rapid general and focussed systemic examination, tried summarizing at the end( couldn't do it in many as i was running out of time...), tried to do a good closure and counseling though.Thanked all the patients and gave them reassurance that i will soon attend them again with solutions...Wrote PN as given in FA...I think practice helped a lot here since I finished all of them in 8-9 minutes in spite of writing in detail...AND most imp thing didn't think about the previous case as I moved to next...(DON'T PANIC IF U LOSE A SET...JUST FOCUS ON THE MATCH!!!)
It isn't a difficult exam just the apprehension is pretty bad... we all can do it with our fair amount of clinical knowledge...they just want us to be good humane doctor! Take a deep breadth and tell yourself that if thousands can do it even i can!!Everyone of us can crack it!!

Congratulations ! I recently gave my CS, 2 weeks back. And believe me, I am sooo Nervous..Thinking im not going to get thru ! But reading your post, gives me a little confidence in my attempt, that I will, Pass....AMEN I did not do any major blunders, I was done in time, greeted warmly, my history was complete, had time to counsel....in a few cases had no clue about the diagnosis ! the PN was a little rough, I wrote all that i thought was important, but then writing the other PN, i wud always remember some thing that i forgot to write in the previous one...hehe ! i felt it went a lil tricky! I really hope i was Empathetic enough... and made them feel that i m caring !! Neways.. Wish me luck
N good luck to all who are going to appear soon !

Don't worry buddy128, U have already given ur best and I think If u didn't mess up on major things passing would not be a problem. The long wait for the result is however killing...stay strong!! Best of luck.

i m done with my exam and have mixed feeling about it. Things I covered : introduction handshake, draping, pamhugsfoss, hand wash before PE,permission before PE, and summarize history, and simple closure covering initial diagnostic and work plan for all cases. my mistakes: i came out very fast before the end of encounter for most of cases, and made lots of mistakes in patient notes like it was not clean and in proper order,.. last about my SEP, i m really nervous.they replied to all my questions instantly except in few occasions where they asked me to repeat.do they reveal it during the encounter If they are having any difficulty in understanding my English. i hope i should get through it easily.
