isn't cd40 supposed to be on b cells, not t cells? why is it that in fa 2003 p224, re: hyper IgM syndrome, it says there that the defect is on cd40 ligand on cd4 Thelper cells? i do know that cd40 is important for bcells in class switching. any clarifications please?

cd40 is on b cells and cd40ligand is on Th cells ... interaction b/w the two leads to class switching and dat is why in hyperIgM syndrome (defect in cd40 ligand)class switching can not occur--->increased IgM

hope the following can make the point stay longer in ur mind: the bindign of CD40L (Tc) to CD40 (Bc) constitutes costimulatory signal for Th2 response. another example of costimulatory signal is B7 (on APC) and CD28 (helper T). more association, what is the mechanism and presentation of hyper IgE syndrome?

the mechanism is due to failure to produce gamma interferon by T helper cells, so that more Th2 cells are presenst, hence more IgE.
