I guess...it is an amphiarthrodial joint, formed between the auricular surfaces of the sacrum and the ilium. The articular surface of each bone is covered with a thin plate of cartilage, thicker on the sacrum than on the ilium. These cartilaginous plates are in close contact with each other & are united together by irregular patches of softer fibrocartilage. And also by interrosseus fibres. In adults (or older???) they are separated by a space which contain synovia-like fluid. This is what i remeber from grey's anatomy! Please correct me guys if i am wrong.

Ankylosing spondylitis affect this joint, from X-ray you will see narrowing of joint space or even fusing...
