Hi gang,

Can anyone tell what they know about the SHH gene?
How about the HOMEOBOX gene?

Thank you very much!

T-17 to BIG DAY.

  #2

they are highly repetitive sequences that are believed to regulate the expression of some neccessary "House keeping proteins".

Thank dariush,

But which one did you mean--or are both genes similar in that way??

Thank you?

no no no!!! sorry Namf i was BADLY wrong. i mixed two things up.

HOMEOBOX is a series of protein that are coded by a so-called HOMEODOMAIN genes that are highly Conservative (i.e. have remained constant during revolution) and their task is beleived to be during the FETAL period and they determine which genes are expressed when and in what sequence and where. f you have any problem with them you might have some part of your body either missing or MISPLACED !! (they saw this first is fruitfly smiling face ) as in human`s Klein-Waardenburg syndrome
see : Kaplan Biochem lecture note page 75

on the other hand what i mentioned before, the "Housekeeping proteins" coded by the same name genes are simply nothing but the proteins which are expressed in ALL cells of the body and have NOTHING to do with Homeobox

about SHH aka SH2 i remember something from Genetics far away which i am not sure of, but if i hit on it i`ll let you know.

again i am very sorry for this stupid mistake.

Hey Dariush,

Thanks so much for your efforts in correcting your error--you are so conscientious! No, no, no need to worry my friend! You're not to late, and it would never be appropriate to blame someone you ask a question here for making a mistake. This is the nature of studying!

I should tell you I am the one who is always worried about being wrong and feel scared to make mistakes. But it's inevitable and the way we learn. Never fear making mistakes--we all do all the time--and keep spreading the help and brother/sister-hood on prep4usmle!

Thank you, Dariush!
