Last time I checked 88 is above average for US grads...

So quit with the mockery and get on with your clerkships.

Yes I would probably feel the same way - I'd be kind of depressed and exasperated if I got a much lower score than I thought I deserved. But what can be done about it now? You cant really retake step 1 - so the only way to do better is to imporove your step 2 and 3 score and gett good clinical grades. This will help you get the residency you want. But the truth is unless you're extremely remarkable IMG - let's say all 99's on the boards, all A's in medschool, previous clinical and research experience, and most importantly A GOOD, WELL-ARTICULATED REASON FOR PRACTICING MEDICINE and for DEFENDING YOUR CHOICE TO GO TO A CARIB MED SCHOOL you won't impress the residency people more then lets say someone who's a few point lower or higher than you on the USMLE. The exception is some residency programs do have "cut off pts" under which they wont accept you - but for IM the cut off pts (if they even exist for your particular program) are probably in the "barely above passing range." Generally speaking, currently, IM isn't terrible competetive like Otolaryngology or Derm. grin

P.S. even though message boards are good for somethings, you never know who's going to reply. So if you're really looking for good answers go to the source - call up someone in a res program and talk to them, so you wont have to listen to people like me here

Do you want to work in Family Practice? Then apply there. An 88 is a good score. Less :_online_: and more :icon_study: !!

(Thanks for the prayers for the brother, he's back in the hospital ARGH!!!!)

Most organs come from blood match and family members. Others come from cadavers.

Sign the donor cards for where ever you live. It's important to the lives of others......
