Is the antibody in pemphigus vulgaris and bullous pemhigoid the same?

antibodies r same IgG but against diff things..in one against desmosomes and in bullous pem. against basement membrane .

pemhigus--- Abs r against proteins in desmosomes(cadherin)
pemphigoid --- abs against proteins in hemidesmosomes(integrin)

yes, it is potentially fatal!!

yes that`s right. in addition "Pemphgus" has two types :
"P. Vulgaris" against DESMOGLINE 3 (a type of Cadherin) which is the most severe and as mani mentioned could be fatal.
"P. Falicius" against DESMOGLINE 1 (another type of Cadherin) which is most common in Brazil and less severe.

both types are more common on the TRUNK whereas Pemphigoid is more on the Periphery (Extrimities).
although Pemphigoid is milder it should be remembered that in most instances it is accomponied by some kind of Malignancy
TRX for both : Topical/Systemic Steroids, Immunosuppressives.

which type of Malignancy, do you know ? :wink:

a) Type IV collagen
b) hemidesmosome
