hi tzn i am also an IMG and in the USA. It's not very easy to hold your nerves intact when in a situation like this. I recently took step 1 and am not very sure of passing. Its very depressing to think of considering another career leaving aside the glorious could-be-the-future thing. But as hard it is to go through all this, The rewards will be equally satisfactory. Think about the personal satisfaction of the achievement of passing the steps. Not everybody makes it in a go. There are hurdles and hurdles. But the joy of passing the hurdles gives you the strength of going on. I came to USA after doing MBBS in PUNJAB in INDIA. i used to enjoy everything about me. But now life seems so hard. Nothing seems to be in control. .. But thats where your determination comes in.. Be determined and god will help you. Believe in yourself and the fact that you have done MBBS. Its not a piece of cake doing MBBS either. But you did that., you accomplished that feat....so why stumble now...I know its hard ,but you have to hang in there and not loose hope...... Believe in god and in yourself. you have come so far. you sure will be able to do the steps as well. Good luck.

hi docofthebigapple , thanks for your responce. i remember when i passed MBBS it was a very tough exam and when i got my score i was in a 'high' for most of my internship. i felt like there was nothing which could stop me, and then came the USMLE, reality hit me smack in my face. now things really feel out of control all the plans i had made and the goals i had set are crumbling infront of me. But i realize that usmle is just another exam and it can't determin my life & futher. it's time to get back on my feet dust my self off and retake this exam. thanks for the pep talk.

I know a few guys who went "stray" i.e left their residency plans. MHA-- Master of Hospital Administration is course you can try. Pharmaceutical companies would employ you only if you had practicing license of that country, as it involves subject handling/ monitoring. You can also diversify into medical writing--- contact American Medical Writers Association or something like that.

An excellent optopn for those who can't do a residency is the MPH.Why? 1.it is a professional degree in public health. And public health these days means big research projects and big money! 2.it is a one -two year course!

hi tzn, we are birds of the same boat, I also have a MBBS degree, yet not got a residensy.Dont lose hope and certainly dont begin your work on such a negative attitude. The fact is that we can;t use our MBBS degree any where in US to get any work or anything, but their are certain options like , doing an Observership, GETTING into an Public Health program, get an MS FROM ANY UNIVERSITY, .... roll IF YOU FIND ANY other options plz tell me. )
