if venous return increases more blood will be coming to the heart. it will stretch the myocytes to a greater degree and these cells will be stretch to a sarcomere length that is closer to optimal to produce max cross bridging of actin and myosin and hence greater power will be generated in next cotraction and so more blood will be ejected by heart ie inc CO. reverse will occur if venous return is dec.
