hospitalize,then have CBC and probably evaluate for meningitis---LP etc.

get a wbc count done
if
wbc 5000-15000cells u/l
absolute band <1500
and
urinalysis -normal
then no serious illness.
if wbc> 15000 and infant appears well then ceftriaxone.
if pt ill appearing then hospitalize and start empiric antibiotics.
