The new FRED software which will replace the Prometric software allows to highlight & strike out item text as well as create annotations. Expect extra delays in score report for USMLE Step 3 in October 2004. Official announcement at: www.usmle.org/news/newstestsoftware.htm

Also, to add for Step1 and Step 2 software changes at same link: Note to Step 2 examinees: Migration of Step 2 USMLE to the FRED software will occur after the Step 3 transition in October 2004. Please monitor this page to check for changes in test delivery software. Note to Step 1 examinees: If you are preparing to take USMLE Step 1 in 2004, you should practice with the sample test materials delivered using the Prometric test software. Migration of Step 1 USMLE to the FRED software will not occur until 2005.

Hi, The info you are looking for is available online at www.usmle.org/news/testsoftware.htm. Recently, they changed the web site usmle.org and the previous link is not working any more. Changes in the program will bring few new functions in the exam. If you take USMLE Step 3 in October you will probably be tested with the new software and your score might be reported late. I would go ahead and download the sample test materials and familiarize with the new software. Regards!
