To those that have taken the test this year (2004), what would be the best book (only 1, Kaplan included) to study for each subject?
thanks

PS. My Pharm sucks, any recommendations

Hi,
You can look in the category Books for USMLE Step 1 organized by subject area.
The best rated books are displayed from top to bottom.

do you mean one each subject? in my humble opinion...

make sure you get goljan audio and do kaplan qbank.

first aid is enough for pharm, katzung or lippincott's for reference.
path: goljan (my preference) or brs
neuro: made ridic simple
anatomy and embryo: high yield
micro: i liked high yield, most people recommend made ridiculously simple
biochem: high yield
physio: brs
beh sci: high yield, but my version was a little outdated. use qbank for ethics. just found this website for ethics, so didn't use it, but recommended by 99er meg: http://eduserv.hscer.washington.edu/bioethics/

i hear jawetz is best for immuno, tho didn't use it personally.

i don't know what's best for cell bio and histo. i used high yield histo but hated it. perhaps kaplan is good.

otherwise, i hear kaplan is enough (plus first aid) for every subject but path.

Not to disagree with the venerable Nuprin  , but IMHO Kaplan for all subjects is more than enough.

not having used kaplan myself, i can't really give a valid opinion. just reporting what i heard. (though i still swear by goljan). <:from_book:>

you know, i don't like this smiley: smiling face it looks like a smirk. is there any way we can get a smiley that looks like the upside down frowny?
