Just took step II, so here's my experiece. Long freak'n day-make sure you've prepared for that aspect.... staying focused all the way through the 9th block is key!! Sit and do 150 ?'s at a time if you can.... the day goes by faster that way. On my particular exam... Peads was massively hit.... more x-rays than I thought I'd get (thymoma/teratoma), diaphragmatic hernias, sliding hernias, RSV and parainfluenza were well represented. Suergery, ob/gyn and int. med were all about equal. Psych was a breeze. Biostats were 2-3 ? per block- normal stuff though PPV, sens/speci. etc. Rheumatology in particular OA and RA were well represented. Lot's of cardio's.... 15 or so EKG's, but you could get most of ? from the content. Time was NOT a problem compared to step I. Test was straight forward, not a lot of nit picky stuff. Know the common stuff, DIABETES, HTN, SYSTOLIC VS DIASTOLIC DYSFXN. I'd say that preventative medicine was very common as well. Know what you do w/ a guy whose got an LDL of 160 w/ no risk factors except that he has CHF... what would you do? Vaccinies were also common. Hope this helps!! Good luck.... PS this forum is useful if you go through all the questions....

I have some questions to you:

1) What are the sources of questions you have used? How are they useful?

2) Please tell us more about your preparation: What did you do when you were 2 months away from exam? the month of exam? What is your suggestion for these time?

Thank you very much! Best of luck in future! smiling face smiling face

Here is a rough outline of what i did... It may work for some and not for others-

Reading material: I used Kaplan notes, USMLE step 2 secrets, Goldjan notes for step I, Boards and Wards, Washington manual and blueprints (didn't do psych, did do radio).
Questions: Q bank/book, all blueprint questions (both at the back of the book and individual sets), NMS, mock the exam and this forum.

I took 2 months off and hit the books hard.... 12-16 hours per day. Read during the day and did about 100 ?'s per night. Took notes on every little thing I didn't know- by the end I had 250 pages of great one liners and zebras (reading and writing things down makes info fixate to my neurons). I then read them all into an MP3 player and listened to them when I was waking up, cooking, going to bed etc. The last two weeks I didn't hit as hard because I started to do cardiac anesthesia at Mount Sanai in Miami beach-actually got to hold a beating heart before bypass for the first time today!). I managed to review my notes 2 times during those two weeks and also was able to clear the last 8 blocks of mock the exam. This was more or less my stratergy for step 1 and came out with a 231. I feel better about the test this time around, but I think I studied harder for this one. Easier to study int. med than biochem and embryo. It's all in YOUR power though.... study hard and relax later.... I've been here in miami beach for a little over two weeks, live 2 min. from the beach and haven't even hit it yet.... I will tomorrow though...... I will also have piece of mind. Good luck folks.

PS. I don't consider myself at all smart.... just average with motivation...
Also, there is a thread on this forum called int. med questions and another called int. med answers... I liked the info on the 448 q and a provided.
