here's that nbme correlation again: NBME 300 350 400 450 500 550 600 650 3-dig. 172 181 193 204 215 226 236 247 2-dig...70...74...79...84...88...93...97...99 seems like it's pretty accurate. kaplan recommends that you score at least 60% on the simulated to pass comfortably.

Nuprin, I really doubt that correlation. Where did you get it? I know I didn't do well enough to get a 95+ and as you know I got a 570 on the NBME. I think it all depends on what test you get and how you do on that day. Of course I haven't gotten my score yet. Maybe I am just paranoid. Was doing good about not worrying about my score, but I have to admit that I am starting to get nervous now that the big day draws near .... Here's hoping you are right!

i hear you, retroviridae. sooooo nervous. think they'll be reported tomorrow? i got the correlation off some forum. it has seemed to match up accurately with people who have reported their scores. of course, there's no guarantee. i think they do it based on standard deviations. 500=avg of nbme=215=avg of usmle. SD=100 on nbme and SD=20 on usmle. so 1SD+ is 600 on nbme, 236 on usmle. i'm hoping that God will be generous and my actual score is better than this correlation...

Nuprin, why do you want a higher score than the correlation. You got a 590 or something like that on the NBME didn't you? Isn't that like a 97?? You're a US student aren't you? You could get anything with that score.... Here's me still hoping for an 85+, but somehow I expect to just pass ....... Yes, we should all pray. Anyone remember anti-ulcer therapy?

retroviridae, i guess you're right. i should really not fret. most upperclasspeople tell me that just scoring in the 90s is sufficient for competitive residencies. i guess i want a good score bc i really worked my butt off and i have never before worked that hard in my entire life, not even during med school or for the mcats. i'd really like to see that if i fully apply myself that i can accomplish anything. i suppose it's more of a personal thing. i really feel like i'm standing on the splenic flexure right now (watershed? )--i've spent my entire life getting by with minimal effort though i've always known i was capable of accomplishing so much more. i've always wanted to be a hard worker but was never heretofore able to kick it in. i have gotten a lot of personal satisfaction from seeing that i have FINALLY applied myself, but you know, it will feel incomplete unless i get a good score to go along with it. maybe i am being arrogant or selfish here, but i want to teach myself a lesson, that hard work really pays off--positive reinforcement. but it's not like i'd cry if i got a 97, either. i also want to add that you should not be discouraged. i think you will be more than pleasantly surprised by your score. have faith. : :icon_cherry:
