it is a condition called thyroid storm and its treatment include hydration prppylthiouracil 100mg every 2hr iodine b blockers glucocorticoid answer is --salicylates DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT Thyroid storm is diagnosed on the basis of symptoms. Although laboratory tests indicate thyrotoxicosis (by elevated thyroid hormone levels) there is nothing to distinguish thyroid storm from ordinary hyperthyroidism. Treatment should never be delayed. Therapy is directed at supportive care and prompt reduction of thyroid hormone. Drugs to reduce fever (antipyretics) are indicated, but aspirin should be avoided, as it is known to increase thyroid hormone levels. ATD's and strong iodine solution (Lugol's solution) given an hour later (to prevent excess iodine causing hormone production) are administered to reduce thyroid hormone synthesis and release from the thyroid. Beta blockers are also given to control symptoms.
