If I hear it right, Goljan mentioned "J receptor" in the scenario of pulmonary edema, anybody know more about J receptor? thanks.

I remember those from Guyton. Receptors found in alveoli that ellicit cough reflex when the space is occupied by something other than... air. You might want to add the word «suddenly» before «occupied» back there, but I'm not 100% sure of that...

J receptors r sensory nerve endings in alv wall in juxtaposition to pulm capillaries. they r stimulated when irritant chemicals r injected into pulm bld or when pulm capillaries become engorged with bld or in pulm edema(as in CHF) their excitation gives a feeling of dyspnea
