Hey guys Iam in a tricky situation. My name on th ediploma doesn't match with the passport name . I have laready filled the application. What should I do? Getting the letter from college in India is taking long than I anticipated. Can I still sit for the step 1 or my application will be rejected? What are my options while here at US. Is there some other way , Please help. Thanks

have you applied to the ECFMG yet? because they are the one who will tell you if there is a problem or not. I suggest applying and meanwhile try to see if you can correct the discrepency with your name. You do have to send your diploma(copy) to ecfmg when you apply for the exam and they will verify the info with your medical school. Once granted the admission to sit for the exam you will get and orange admission letter with your name on it...the name is the name which usmle believes to be your name. now on day of the exam you have to bring a proper id (driver's license, passport,...etc), and the name on the id has to match the name on you orange slip. I suggest applying, or at least call ecfmg and see what they tell you. hope you resolve your problem.

yes it is a problem - a huge one. it is going to be a problem when you try to get a license to practice in the united states. unless your name is different because you got married. in that case you just have to present a marriage certificate. good luck - but get this taken care of soon.

I think that once they verified everything there will be no further problem with subsequent aplications or with getting the lisence. Does anybody know ???????????????? please repply bcz I am afraid of any further problems It was bad enouph to wait 8 weeks to be accepted and to be rejected twice for no reasons.

if just ur surname is different then u can get it notarized by an NP and send it along cert statement......fr dat u need a valid US i.d like a drivers licence or a photo id otherwise just call up ECFMG and ask them...

thans mash but you just did not understand me I have no problem with ID the problem was that I changed my name completely sur and first 5 years ago and it was difficult for them to understand that but I told my dean about that and he verified to ECFMG that its the same person I have 2 ID with the new name but somebody from the forum said that it will be still a huge problem getting the lisence to practice in US why will it be a problem if its verified by ECFMG once they accept your new name why will they make me problems getting my lisence? did you get it?
