Encephalitis- altered mental status from confusion to coma is the hallmark. There can be neck stiffness also. LP is the key test. CT or MRI aren’t of much help in dx, but should be done to rule out SOL.
Abcess- Headache and fever with focal deficits. CT or MRI.
