in the 2003 edition of first aid pharmacology p312, there is a picture of the conversion of tyrosine into norepinephrine. the arrow with the name reserpine is directed between the conversion of dopamine to NE. does this mean that MAO which converts dopamine to NE is acted on by reserpine? when compared to the diagram in kaplan 2002, it says that reserpine acts on the granular uptake of NE. does this mean that the first aid picture is wrong?

Just remember"
1)There is decreased release of NE
2)It blocks abilityof neurons to transprt NE from the cytoplasm to the storage vesicle. (MAO degrades NE)
3)NE is depleted-Sympathetic function is impaired/parasymp. activity apperars to be accented

*decreaseBP&HR
**impotence,increase gastic acid,**Depression/hallucinations
***ONe more pt -reserpine depletes vesicles/so MAO degrades
to product like VMA and normetanephrine
And it doesnt work on dopamine B Hydroxylase between dopamine and NE
Its old fashion

great answers mjl1717! just a little more info here. hope it'll make things even more clear for bm.

reserpine inhibits the H+/NE pump, which pumps H+ out of the storage vesicle and pumps NE into it.
