what can be detected in the window period of Hep B infection?is it only Hb core Ab or Hbe Ag also?

  #2

Only HB core Ab, b/c they do not have the access to the Ag. The rest of Ab will form lattice with Ag and will be undetectible.

For some reason, my class notes contain a +/- in the boxes for HBeAg and HBeAb--although I thought mdwannabe's explanation sounded really sensible. I think HBeAg is also in the core of the virus, by the HBcAg.

Anybody explain why HBcAg never measured? Is it because it is inside the viral core and therefore usually not floating around (but I imagine the virus could fragment and expose the HBcAg--but what do I know?)

Thanks!

yeah, HBc is inside the core so, is never pr in the bld....

Why don't we quickly review the dynamics of Hep B infection..
Namf...your question...so you get the hohor to go first...explain in the most simple terms...just the way you see it in your head. We shall all jump in once you done.

There are HBeAg negative mutants (associated with a poorer prognosis), which is the reason for the +/- in your notes.
