Guys there was a question on my exam, which i dont remember entirely, but basically it was something about an 81 year old woman coming into the doctor and asking him if he can check to see whether she has alzhiemers because lately she has been feeling weird. He checks and finds that his thyroid hormones are high, the choices then say something like: A) Check thyroid levels B) Do MRI of head C) Do neurological tests D) something something E) Reassure her that she does not have alzheimers What do u guys think is the rite answer?

I feel that the first step would be to reassure her that she does not have alzheimers reason being that there seems to be a lot of other factors that are into play 1:her age 2:secondly the thyroid hormones here seem to be causing the problem notice the word 'lately' which suggests some acute rather than a long standing chronic problem like alzheimers and the word"weird" which is inconsistent with a dementia like condition 3: also alzheimers is diagnosed after all the rest of the etiological factors r ruled out 4: I feel that before going into any more tests with all the above factors u can safely rule out alzheimers and reassure the pt that she does not have it coz that seems to be her primary concern

Thats what i had chosen too, first I had picked A, as soon as i saw thyroid tests being abnormal, but when i read that last choice, i was like wait, that sounds more like it. Hopefully our reasoning is correct!!!
