Only several days to my test. Tried NBME form 1 this afternoon and got 730. But I feel the questions are too short and many of them look very familiar. Is that because I have already done Kaplan Qbank? Maybe Kaplan's authors consulted NBME self-assessment ... Anyway, now I really doubt NBME can give you a good assessment.

:icon_thumb: it seems u r really doing very well! I have read posts by people who gave exam ,saying that NBME is more close to real exam. You will definitely get a great score in the real exam!!! All the best!!!

My test is very soon and I am reading everything in my hand right now... i mean exactly don't know what should i focus the most! Maybe too easy, but the scores correlate well apparently. Saw a guy who got 700 and 710 on the NBME score 267(!) on the step 1. Not bad for you.

to ELM, I've spent about 18 months studying. In average study 1-2 hours/day during the the first 12 months, and 3-4 hours/day for last 6 months. I do have a full-time job and a family. Went to med school in 90' and haven't touched anatomy/pharm/patho ever since, so the first 12 months basically just helped me to recall the vocabulary. Used BSR for most subjects (lange for pharm and micro) and in cases big textbooks. Last several weeks were devoted to qbanks, simulations and all questions I can find. Gone through Qbank IVQbank twice. A&LERT, NMS, BSS once. Probably have done >8000 questions so far. I think doing questions is really helpful.

Look at you Man! You just gonna rock this test! ...Nooo doubt about it!!!!!! I am impressed! really!!!!! If you have been reading and thinking about this test last 18 months.....you have to do this good.... no wonder! I am reading about 7 and 8 months but like you said in the begining i was doing just some light readings...... but last 3 or 4 months i took it serously and read more attentivly but still that's not enough compare what you did! have you take the test before? just curuois..... You think doing qs even you not sure of the concepts gonna help? There are still lot of things i am not sure of....... and sometimes seems i don't know much.... and not ready for the test. But i 'll take the test anyways.. if i fail this time so let me get some experience. I finished Q bank and working on second round now. I am sure that i am learning things everyday but it's like take 1 spoon out of the ocean..... there is still so much to learn and figure out! Good luck to you man! I am sure you worked hard and it's time to get paid off! So what can i say ... becuase you are gonna rock this test! Just relax and charge your brain before the test and then just do it! Don't forget your post!

wow. 730 is the highest i've heard of for form 1. if you look at the correlation, 99 starts at 650, so you got nothin' to worry about. i thought nbme was MUCH harder than the real thing. best of luck!

Took the step 1 and I feel very relaxed now. First of all, I still think the real Step 1 is slightly harder than NBME and Kaplan, although that may be because I did Kaplan twice and NBME happens to have many questions I am familiar with. With Kaplan/NBME I typically marked 10-15 questions which I think worth review. But in the real test I had to mark 15-20 questions for each section. I feel the questions can be put into two categories: Those are very easy and have repeatedly appeared in your practice materials, about 60%. Those are relatively hard and require some thinking, about 35%. About 20 questions are so weired that all you can do is guessing in the dark. Maybe that fits the idea of letting most people to pass but making higher scores difficult. Time is not an issue. Although some questions are very lengthy but that doesn't mean they are hard, and there are enough 1-2 line questions to buy your time. For each block I had 15-20 minutes left, enough time to review all marked questions carefully. The review helped me to correct no more than 5 questions though, I guess. Have recalled most questions but I know it is illegal to talk about them. The following areas are what I wish I have studies more: Neuroanatomy - make sure you can identify everything from CT/MRI/gross section. Neurology - make sure you know all different gaits and what they look like. Pharmacology - it is worth to remember all variants in LANGE book (very hard to do I guess). Besides, MOA seems to be their focus. Behavior - do as many doctor-patient questions as you can. Pathology/Pathophysiology - fairly easy. Biochemistry - there ARE some pure pathway questions. At least need to remember the most important pathways. Micro - fairly easy. If you have a couple of weeks left, then doing many practice MCQs is still the best way to improve. Don't ignore neuroscience though.

Physiology - there are several graphs, if you are understand those common ones (heart, Hb, etc) in any reviewbook you should be okay. Pharma - even w/o Lange, if you have First aid, really should remember every drug name it mentions including those for cancer and virus, and at least one sentence (MOA) for each drug.

to ELM, I think you still have time to do questions. I kept doing so until 2 days before test. For me the most helpful way to do questions is: do 50 questions (limit to 40 minutes) each time, mark the interesting ones as you go, check the answers, review those you did wrong and those you marked. I have a notebook to write down one or two sentences for every hard question. Every 2-3 days review the notebook. Questions often repeat themselves but in different format. I found writing down something and reviewing it later is the best way to avoid making the same mistake. Do at least 250 questions per day. So you can still do 2000 questions.

wow, your test was totally different than mine. I wonder how they correlate the scores .... or maybe they don't. Like they said, it's content based, and you should know anything they can throw at you ....
