G6PD deficiency
Causes haemolysis with primaquine, nitrofurantoin, fava beans and sulphonamides. Or infection with a parvovirus

Hexokinase deficiency

who is next ?

  #6

Glucose phosphate isomerase --4%
PK deficiency 95%
All other glycolytic enzyme deficiencies combined is rare.
G6PD- by far most common, affects 200 million worldwide/x- linked recessive/malarial protection.

Yeah..thats corrcet , guess in case if we do not see the familiar ones in the list , we should also look for these glycolytic enzymes..here is the list..

Hexokinase,
glucose-phosphate isomerase,
aldolase,
triose-phosphate isomerase,
phosphate-glycerate kinase,
enolase,
and pyruvate kinase

Among these mjl has covered the most common ones!!

On which of the above enzymes does insulin work (exam question)!!!

  #9

Not sure which one insulin works on??But I would guess Pyruvate Kinase because insulin stimulates PFK and the products of this enzyme have a fastforward enhancing action on Pyruvate Kinase.......???????
