Hi..i did it last week.I also did very bad in the exam. As i have came to know from lot of people on this forum, they say real exam is easier than the kaplan. But i dont want to take defensive mood like this.I have seen people on this forum getting 82% on the cd also. I think ..final exam is not just the knowledge but application of knowledge. after the exam ..i am going to mae myself strng in thise weak areas. If u r not ok with kaplan...go for NBME.its more close to the real exam. Thats what i will do next week..... hopefully this time no low figures...... bye the way when is ur exam? Good luck...study hard!!!

The difference between Kaplan, NBME, and the real test is that the USMLE is not as straight forward. If you are up on the material, Kaplan and NBME becomes an exercise in recalling the facts. While there is plenty of that on the real test, the questions are just "different." I don't think calling them concept questions is fair. They are multi-step questions testing you on facts in a way you have never seen. It's hard to explain until you take the test. There are hypotheticals that require conceptual understanding. But there are a lot of questions testing, in essence, a fact. But it will be presented in the strangest way. I think you should be getting into the 70% range on Kaplan. But hey, I am still waiting for my results, what do I know. I got 70-75% on the Kaplan test and got a 570 on the NBME. But I felt relatively good about those tests. The real thing scares me. I just don't know how I did. That's the kind of questions you get. You think them through and come up with one or two that could be correct and then make your best guess. I did a lot of educated guessing. That scares me. Hopefully I reasoned correctly, but you can never tell. I'm sure this doesn't help. The only thing you can do is learn the facts as best you can and hope you can apply them to the real test. There is great deal of facts questions. I think we all just remember the other ones because they were harder.
