I have an appointment for PIPE in Chicago in August. Unfortunately i was not able to get Visa for US, so now i am out of the match. I had applied for Visa three times, but all in vain. So to recover the money i have spent in the Visa procedure, I am forced to give my Pipe date to someone who is interested in it for a 1000$ fee...please contact me at moozy1@yahoo.com

Hi Moozy. I was just amazed at you... And you are going to become a doctor?? It is very immoral to sell a PIPE date especially for that sum. Why do you think that somebody else should pay for your mishaps with the US Embassy. We are all in the same position. I am sure nobody is going to buy it, and you will just waste a place in PIPE, which some of us could use. If I were you I would just cancel my appointment and let others make use of it. I personally think that ECFMG should fine everybody who schedule a PIPE and then just don't show up. I am actually going to send them my proposal. I could also let them know that some people are trying to sell PIPE (I am sure it is illegal), but don't worry I am not going to do it, just because I don't want to give trouble to anybody. Good Luck. :!:

I agree with you guys and even though i have offers to sell the PIPE, i haven't sold it to anyone yet. I have emailed ECFMG regarding the refund of my CS fee, but no reply from them yet. Why should i suffer becuase of this stupid embassy and Visa issues because of which i wasted so much money and time. Because of their stupid policies, i dont stand anywhere now. ECFMG should do something in regard of Visa issues. They enroll eveyone for the Exam and take the money but dont even care to reply to the emails. Keep looking for the Pipe update for August. you might just get it ( for free).

All my sympathies with you moozy. I think if you cant get the visa, immediately cancel the CS appointment, otherwise you may end up losing your money. Visa is a big issue these days and it NOT ONLY for CS, but also after that.. J1 .. etc. I know a program, they signed a contract with a guy last year and he couldnt get clearance for J1. They waited a whole year for him hoping he might get visa any day, but he didnt. This year he got the contract again (automatically, without an interview) but again having problems, as nobody knows where his passport is. State department says, 'its in process, and we cant tell how much time it might take'. So its not only for CS visa's. The issue goes much beyond that. Last year they had to do more interviews in the middle of session because of another visa-vacant slot in IM, but they couldnt hire anybody.. so the slot went vacant. This year two of the residents in the same program, havent joined yet, one of them have been already denied a visa and other is uncertain about it. As a matter of fact, the sufferings dont finish even after getting J1.. No fellowships and very few waivers. In this year's fellowship match (announced on June 23) only 30% FMGs while 70% AMG matched. It used to be reverse. It might not be news for anybody that AMGs get fellowships on preferential basis. As for H1 visa's the quota has already been cut by 60% last year. You are right, its not your fault that visa policy is so uncertain, which is making a lot of people suffer all around the world. But the hospitals here or ECFMG cannot do anything about it as well. They dont have any control over the situation. Its the 'beloved government' which is doing all this... restricting everybody everywhere. If you are not one of the sufferers yet, just wait, your turn might be around the corner. Its very unfortunate that it has become a trend to take USMLE 'blindly' after graduation in some countries. It is good if you can afford it, but it really hits hard on people who cannot actually afford to invest this much money, but go for it blindly. I think its highly recommendable that people realize the situation, and try to make the right decision. Try to do your internships, get into process for your local PG exams. Then if you have time and money for USMLE then go for it. Its not something that you do as first thing after graduation and put all your hopes on it. However if you want it this way then be ready to face hardships as well. You might not be one of the lucky ones who get into residency right after their graduation, without any trouble. Guys I dont want to sound discouraging (which I am sure I am), my only purpose to give this picture is that 'PLAN IT WELL' and dont go for it blindly and 'DONT BURN YOUR BOATS'. Dont do it because everybody else is doing it. Dont listen to the people telling you in your final years of med school 'its the best choice'. Let me put it straight 'its the best choice for the people who dont have any visa problems'.

I fully support daira's views. Yes, it's now becoming a fashion expecially in some countries like in India and even in a poor country like Nepal to go for USMLE right after the MBBS. Yes, it's right to take it for those who remained excellent candidates during their medical school. I have seen people who just passed in their medical school, then they stay back in their home for may be 1 or 2 years to prepare for exam. Got good scores in Step 1 , average scores or low scores in step 2 because they didn't give 1 year time for step 2, thinking step 2 is not so important as step 1 (how fool!).I think they shouldn't get visas because they don't deserve it. Am I right?
