If radiouptake scan is contraindicated in pregnancy, how will we diagnose graves disease?

graves is mostly diagnosed by symptoms......which are very specific and confirmatory. I believe scenarios will definitely have one or two signs of graves disease.

I agree. But, an enlarged thyroid+hyperthyroidism can be anything. We can't just start a patient on PTU without confirming, It could well be painless thyroiditis.

Ok in pregnancy, it is tough situation, we have to rely only on history, physical and tsh t4 levels. It is necessary to taper PTU in later stages of pregnancy, as requirements go down, always start on low doses as PTU does cross placenta. Also, better treat graves before pregnancy with radioiodine, if possible, and ask to avoid pregnancy for 6 months.
