My question is if for coming to the US to practice medicine, even as a general physician, is it an ineludible requisite to make the residency??? or he can take the step 1, step 2, step 3 and get a license to practice medicine? is there any other way? No other way - you need to be ECFMG certified to get a residency, you need to have residency to get a license.

Thank you very much for your reply. What do you think, for example in the case he scores above the 90s on both steps, and get a ECFMG certification, etc. He has left med school more than 15 years ago (i think 18 y ago), but he has 2 specialties, and always been practicing medicine in a big hospital in my country. He still will have chances?? or is it almost impossible for a older physician to get into a residency on the US? I don't want to leave him!!!!!!!! And it will be very sad if he has to leave his brilliant career to be with me here, doing something else different than being a doctor... Give me a light please
