Please, I need someone to clarify something:
I'm an IMG, applying for next year matching, i've already taken step 1, step 2CK and on three weeks, step 2CS, so i'm almost complete.
My boyfriend is in my country, he is already a pediatrician and neonatologist also, with many years of experience (graduated more than 15 y ago). So, he can take the steps, but it will be very unprobably for him to get a residency position (because of the long time since he left the medical school) My question is if for coming to the US to practice medicine, even as a general physician, is it an ineludible requisite to make the residency??? or he can take the step 1, step 2, step 3 and get a license to practice medicine? is there any other way?
please somebody help me!!!!

No other way - you need to be ECFMG certified to get a residency, you need to have residency to get a license.

Thank you very much for your reply. What do you think, for example in the case he scores above the 90s on both steps, and get a ECFMG certification, etc. He has left med school more than 15 years ago (i think 18 y ago), but he has 2 specialties, and always been practicing medicine in a big hospital in my country. He still will have chances?? or is it almost impossible for a older physician to get into a residency on the US?
I don't want to leave him!!!!!!!! And it will be very sad if he has to leave his brilliant career to be with me here, doing something else different than being a doctor...
Give me a light please

I forgot to tell you that he also has an observership in the US.
I really will appreciate any advice or point of view...
Thanks a lot
