What are these stains used to Identify? :?:

1. Alcian Blue
2. Prussian Blue
3. Methanamine Silver
4. Reticulin
5. Congo Red
6. Trichome

3) Pneumocystic carinii (PCP)
5) amyloid

1) acid mucin
3) fungi (as well as PCP - staining time needs to be increased with PCP)
4) reticulin wink (it's a silver impregnation technique)
6) the Masson trichrome stains collagen blue/green (depending on what counterstain is used - methyl blue or light green)

Good Job !! both Rida and Sakaki - especially for Methanamine Silver - that it stains both fungi and pnumocystis - which points to an impotant fact that Pneumocystis is now shown to be a kind of Fungus [based on RNA studies] 8)

Which property of Amyloid makes it Birefringent ?

I think it is the B-pleated sheat arrangement of the Non-amyloid component.

perfect ! non-amyloid component is more specifically called the fibrillary component grin
