what have you been doing so far besides qbank? how long have you been studying and for how many hours per day? how long has it been since you've taken M2 year? i'd definitely recommend a stable mid 60s score bf taking the real thing. try nbme, too, to get a good assessment of what you need to work on.

hey nuprin thanks for replying ive been studying for atleast 6 mths but on and off and ive studied the kaplan notes. i am doing q bank subjectwise now to basically learn as i was doing really bad in random qs so subject wise i studied a bit the did qbank for that subject and that way got 78 76 64 62 62 56 etc for them i dont know if thats the way to do it but seems to be helping me remember stuff and after the qbank i plan to study again before taking nbme etc what do u think ?

that sounds good. do you have qbook? that might help, too. i did subjectwise some, too, but found i used up a lot of questions that way. if i could do it over, i'd use qbook for subjects and save the qbank for random. it is important to test the knowledge you just studied, though. i had really high scores after subjectwise, but it's the random that was a better gauge of my progress bc it showed how much i was retaining. also, i'd recommend kicking in the intensity your last 3 weeks or so. that will consolidate everything in your mind and you'll see how much your score will improve your last week of studying.

hey nuprin i do have the q book but havent done it fully and am planning to do it after the q bqnk as i am not finding time to do anything else with q bank i have already done with half the q bank using up all the qs for 2 subjects i know everyone says that i should do random but i was scoring so low that i thought that i d rather learn it subject wise . do u think thats really a bad way or do u think its ok? coz im hping to finally gauge myself with the simulated exam and the nbme tests in the end? Also can u tell how much should one get in the nbme and kaplan simulated to pass at least thanks a lot

whatever way works best for you is best. there's no magical formula for doing well (besides goljan, of course). many of my friends only did subject wise bc the random was too discouraging. i just round random helpful bc it helped me review and set a foundation for things to come. maybe do a block of random per day? in all honestly, i didn't do much qbank (a block or two per day) until the very end, but that stint at the end helped tremendously. kaplan says get 60% on the simulated exam bf taking the real thing. try to do nbme a little bf the end so you can get an idea of what your glaring weaknesses are and you have time to go over them. go by what the nbme says the SD is v. the usmle SD. i think the nbme avg is 500 which is an 88 on usmle, and the SD is 100. so a 400 is one SD below... not sure what 1 SD below usmle is, tho...
