well... will just review uwa blocks now ... then pack and leave ! its a 2 hr journey to the town where i'll do my test tomoro.... and will review watever ccs cases i can tomoro evening...

just came back... i had a similar experience as everyone else has stated earlier... the exam was crazy/bizarre... definitely the toughest amongst the usmle exams... i felt very bad that i goofed up 3 questions that i knew!sad and did not have enuf time for another 4-5 ... so just guessed on those... some of the questions i swear were repeated in 3 blocks... different wording same concept... and was too bad cause i did not know the conceptrolling eyes

feelin pretty zonked out now and just praying that i have done enuf to get thru.. ( im not being modest..)

will get some rest now and go thru some cases...sad
why do i hate studying so much... well hopefully this will be the last 3 hours i study this evening... ( God I just dont have the energy to do another usmle exam! pl pl take me thru..)

thanks for the support folks... sorry for giving such dismal feedback... ( i truly hope that i am over reacting!smiling face )

gud luck!

All the best Rosetta,

waiting to hear more................................. from you , about tackling the pressure and concentrating continuously during the exam

hello ppl...im done with the exam... this experience might be alittle depressing... so just a warning before u read on...

first day: 5 office blocks + 2 ER blocks... office blocks are relatively easier... ER blocks ... q stems are toooo long... they throw sooo much of nonsense at u and then ask u something totally unrelated.... so always read last line first!
had alot of EKGs and alot of DERM pics.... too bad for me as both these are my major weaknesses... had a few media clips... really could not figure out which heart murmur i was hearing ... so was just guessing based on the q stem ( reading symtoms and age of pt!)... day 1 is very tiring guys... i found step 1 and ck way less tiring... in step 3 ... evry single q is soo intense and requires u to think so much ! very few give away qs with catch phrases...

but just try to stay calm guys and keep doin the best u can and guess and move on....

returned to hotel and just went thru few cases... was too tired to do anything...

day 2: 2 office blocks + 2 er blocks... again office blocks went ok... one er block was totally messed up... i had no time for last 10 qs and i was just running thru them and guessing without even readin .... guys keep the speed right from the first q.... dont let the pressure build only from middle of the block.... if u dont know the ans... just guess, mark and MOVE!!!

then started the fun part for me with the ccs.... for me the most disappointing part of the exam...

1st case... office case.... stable pt but came with some worsening common complaint since 1 day.... i took it chill and just did some labs, gave him symptomatic Rx and sent him home.... he worsened at home and i really freaked.... i immediately transferred him back to er and turns out he has a life threatening situation requiring surgery.... so this delay in management and almost killing him will surely cost me dearly....

2nd case: easy case... but i was so psyched that i did not offer him the right treatment! wat the hell is wrong with me!...

3rd case : the worst one... till now i have no clue about this case... i just could not recognise it... pt had a bunch of electrolyte abnormalities ... so i just took her to er and managed her electrolytes!grin .... she even told me she was feeling better... but i had no clue wat she had... so needless to say i did not write the rite diagnosis

by now i am really depressed and really wondering if im going to fail this dratted exam!!! so i take a break.... go out ... relax... think of my husband and family and pray to God .... lots of break time on 2nd day... u can take a short nap if u feel like itwink..

so i enter back and 4th case... phew... yeah i know it... goes well..

5th case... abdo... i love abdo complaints... so very happy and it goes well too

6 th case... gyne case... goes well too....

feeling alot better now that i have managed atleast 50% cases well till now... so take a break... go out and thank GOd and pray somemore...

7th case... went kinda ok.... he had 2 things goin on... one of which i managed appropriately... the other i did not ...

8th case... again went fine...

9th case... was again out of uw... but i guess i managed it ok cos she improved... but ran out of time in the end... i typed the diagnosis... but before i could click case ended... UUURRRGGGHHH!!!

so i guess i shud score 50% on my ccs... advice.... stay calm... no need to hurry thru case.... i took my time reading history and noting down age sex co morbidities and bad habits... all my cases went over 16- 17 mins...

i have not been able to stop thinkin about my performance... just praying that i have passed it... everywhere i read that ccs is your key to pass... and now that i have messed up this part... i am quite worried...confused

anyways.... will go try to have some fun now... goin to home country next week!! for a loooong vacation before i return to start residency... just prayin that step 3 does not mess up my dream....

gud luck ppl.... this exam is tough... study the best u can with the time that u have and just hope for the best!
