G6PD is the most common one with Heinz bodies. PKD is the second most common one without Heinz bodies, but may increase blood lactate and alanine levels.

PK deficiency is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. It is a decrease in ATP generation that leads to chronic hemolysis; the hemolysis may increase in severity during infections. G6PD deficiency is usually asymptomatic; it is when they are subjected to oxidative stresses (ie. certain therapeutic drugs) or sometimes infections that they develop hemolysis. It is inherited in an X-linked recessive manner.

Also, G6PD is self limited because it usually effects only the older RBCs.
