I was quite hesitating between USG and HIDA when I did the second one; still confused. Docdoc, would you please give a brief explanation or someone share your idea how to choose for the tests for Gallstones? Thanks! :!:

HIDA scan is done for patency of cystic duct. If its patent, the substance will enter bladder, if not the bladder wont be visualized.

During Acute cholecystitis HIDA is confirmatory test.

If there is jaundice, USG is used to confirm wether its due to stones or cancer. Thick walled bladder will show stone while think walled bladder signifies malignancy.
