I've noticed a few different numbers I'd like to settle.

2003 FA says that the leading causes of congenital diseases are:

1. Down Syndrome
2. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

while Kaplan 2004 Beh. Sci. Notes say that they are:

1. FAS
2. Down Syn.

Furthermore there is a discrepancy from what I understand the leading cancers in women are: I thought that lung ca. overtook breast ca. in North America although many of my sources say otherwise.

Thanks.

hello, i dont know about FAS and Down's, but I think for the cancers, Lung CA is the most common cause of CA mortality, but the most common CA among women is Breast. Having Breast CA, being the most common CA among women, does not necessarily mean it is the leading cause of CA death.

I noticed that too - I think they mean Downs is the leading chromosomal cause but FAS is the leading overall cause.

also, FAS is the #1 cause of MR in the US.
