I just heard from a friend who took step1 two years ago that she met at least 3 questions about 'Fetal Surveillance' (figures included in the question). This is way too clinically-inclined, but she said she did see the related topic in a pathology book. I never heard of this before. Anybody knows where I can find brieft explanation and nice figure about this? thank you!

Antepartum fetal assessment is used in pregnancies at high risk for perinatal morbidity and mortality. Current testing options include the fetal movement count, the nonstress test, the contraction stress test and the biophysical profile. Vibroacoustic stimulation is a useful adjunctive procedure. All of these modalities have limitations. A strict protocol for antepartum fetal surveillance that is applicable to all patients is not possible. However, a testing approach based on general principles and guidelines can be followed.

Thank you so much for the reply. I don't quite understand what the figure says. Also, do you know how to differentiate b/t early, late and various deterioration?

i think that's more step 2. the figure just shows activity, i think, for every spike. the more spikes, the better. if they're nonreactive (i.e. little or no spikes) there's something wrong with the baby.
