I am using the 5th edition (1998) of Katzung's pharmacology for the exam and just found that there is a newer 6th edition already in the market. Does anyone know if the 5th edition is too out-of-date to study? Is there a big difference between these 2 editions? Should I go get the new book and start readign it all over again?

Many thanks to your advice!

yeah its the examination and board review series I am talking about. isnt't it the most popular for the exam? my impression is that basic n clinical pharmacology is more like a textbook, right? btw, if u think the 6th edition is very different from the 5th, please tell me. thanks a lot!

Take the 6th. No point to discuss, take the 6th. I know it improved on the 4th and on 5th as well, little things in it that make it better than the previous ones, give it a dekho in a book shop and you'll know.

I heard several times that Katzung's is better than Lippincott's. But I personally have no insight since the only book I have is Katzung's 5th edition.
