"doctorusmle" wrote: hi m&k please tell me how did you do in the kaplan q bank initially and then finally at the end? We started doing Q-bank in mid February, so 3 months before our exam. Initially we scored 60-65%. At the end of preparation we scored 84-90% (for 99) and 76-80% (for 94).

"DOCARJUN" wrote: congratulations! great job! will you advise me how you planned ur kaplan q bank and q book..that is how many days or month before exam.was it after one revision or at the end ?How u use to score in the qbank? Were the questions same as kaplan qbank? We did not use Q-book in our preparation. We started doing questions from Q-bank 3 months before the exam. Initially we scored 60-65% and at the end, right before the exam 84-90% (for 99) and 76-80% (for 94). First we did all questions once, and then went over the wrong ones. Questions on the real exam were slightly harder than Q-bank, especially bs, micro, biochem, and mol biol.

Would you say Micro and Immuno are covered well in First Aid? I know you used a review book for those subjects, but I thought perhaps I'd ask. Thanks, Ahdy2000

Thanks, Ahdy2000 In our opinion First Aid is not enough for those two subjects. It doesn't give you the answers for complicated questions about bacterial and viral pathogenesis, and doesn't cover many questions in immunology. Better use Levinson and Jawetz. First Aid is good for quick review, just before the exam.

My 2nd question is Did use Kaplan MolBiol at all? I know you used Lippincott's for Biochem and MolBio, but you said that the MolBio was very difficult. I guess my question is if Lippincott's isn't enough for MolBio, should I search for another source? Ahdy2000

We used High Yield "Cell and molecular biology" to prepare for this part of the exam. It doesn't cover all questions in molecular biology (we don't know if any book covers them, because some are very, very difficult), but is enough to receive good score.

You are very right. I tend to lose track of the fact that you're allowed to miss some questions, and still get a good score. A third question Is there anything either of you wish you would have done differently, more of, less of? Thx, ahdy2000

In our opinion we did everything right and there is nothing that we would change in our preparation even if we would have done it once more. The biggest emphasis we put on pathology, pharmacology, physiology, microbiology and immunology. Less on biochem, mol biol, genetics, anatomy, neuroanatomy and behevioral science, and much less on statistics and histology.

If you have good background in pharmacology from other books it might be enough even for good score. We do not know anything about Kaplan pharmacology and Kaplan preparation books in general. FA anatomy and neuroanatomy are enough to answer most questions. Good luck on your exam!!!!

Congra to you two. It was great for you two finish so many questions before the exam. It is a pretty good way to do. I have 1 question. Where did you get these books that contains so many questions? Do you still keep them? If yes, could you contact with me? I hope to get them.

And in addition to those books we used the Kaplan Q-bank which can be purchased on-line at www.kaplanmedical.com. Unfortunately we already got rid of all our review books!
