what changes can be seen in the LFTs in various obstructive(emphysema,asthma) and restrictive diseases (fibrosis).interstitial pneumonia is restrictive or obstructive?

all volumes and capacities are decreased in restrictive and increased in obstructive pulm dis. Imp to differentiate between the 2 is FEV1/FVC, decreased in obstructive and normal or increased in restrictive disease. Interstitial pneumonia, i think, it neihther obs nor restr. I would welcome all comments on it

I thought most interstitial diseases were restrictive??

I agree interstitial pneumonia is restrictive.

i too was thinking like this but then i thought that it usually resolves without any impairment. I think we should take it like this during the illness iterstitial pneumonia is restrictive but heals without residual damage. This confusion arose bcaz almost all other iterstitial lung disaeses are irreversible except RDS

againa agree wid u mani..many thing makes u diferenciate b/t restrictive and obstructive but fev1 ratio is da most impotrant in dx.. it decreses in obstrutcive nevre increases.
